26th - 28th August 1997

Tuesday 26th August
We slept in late which was a first since we've been here.  Theresa cooked us breakfast, Claire had scrambled egg and I had waffles.  We then went to the Quay.  We had a coffee/tea and cake and bought Tanya's tea.  We also climbed the tower int he pouring rain. Then we went to the mall.  We went to the liquidation store which was full of really cheap stuff.  A bit like Trago but taker, if you can get any tackier!  We bought lots of chocolate and sweets to have at the cinema later.  We wanted to buy Aaron a medallion to start his lounge lizard look but they wouldn't have been long enough.
We had spag bol for tea and watched "That Thing You Do". We then departed for the "movie theater".  We saw "George of the Jungle" which wouldn't have been our first choice but it was inoffensive and quite entertaining.  The worst thing about it was one of actors in it I recognised and I can't think from where and it's driving me mad. On the way home we stopped at one of Theresa's friends who owns a restaurant.  Claire got really annoyed at the woman because she wouldn't accept Theresa's answer about working. We finally went home and tried to go to sleep while Theresa chatted on the internet.

Wednesday 27th August
Today we got up earlier and had a full itinerary.  We went to Sproat Lake, Stamp Falls and a fish hatchery.  It was really good day despite the weather. But the most hair raising thing was going to the lookout.  This is not a touristy thing so the track is a bit rough to say the least.  We got what turned out to be 90% of the way and Theresa didn't want to drive through a puddle. So we backed back and took another fork.  We drove for about 15 minutes and Claire and I were noticing red DANGER ribbons and the petrol was getting low.  We eventually turned mourned and just then the petrol light came on.  This is fine if you have a car like Claires, i.e. 60 more miles but my Metro practically only does 100m after the light comes on.  We made it down after lots of Tim Bits and hysterical laughing.  We went to the Tourist office and gas station and finally made it to the lookout.  The view when we arrived was non-existent. There was so much fog that it felt like we were really high and looking down on the clouds, then little by little more of the town was revealed until quite a nice view was the result.  The drive up and down was rather hairy though.  We went to McDonalds for dinner on Tanya because we had 3 Buy One Get One Free vouchers so it worked out rather well.  Aaron picked us up and we had a really nice journey home.  We got home at 4:30am.

Thursday 28th August
Awoke after 4 hours sleep.  I called work and asked if they really needed me and they were quite good and only gave me the 6 rooms.  Unfortunately Marisa has gone AWOL and Chantal had to go away so even though I finished work early, 1pm, I started at the Beer and Wine at 2:30pm. It is now 4pm and has been a hairy 90minutes.  I think I've sold someone underage and I've called Kevin 3 times.  I hope it'll get better though.

Well the evening was an experience anyway.  The really horrible part of this job is seeing so many people drunk.  We aren't supposed to serve people who are already intoxicated but how can you say no.  They may get abusive or worse, violent.  Everything that could go wrong I think did and I think it showed that I was a bit nervous because I got $28 in tips, not bad really.  It beats housekeeping anyway!  I finally finished and cashed up and to my amazement my till balanced.  I think you could probably see the relief on my face.  Claire came in totally knackered and said that Bernie had called and it seems that the trip to Uruguay is off so she's a bit confused.  I eventually got home at 11:30pm after doing nearly 13 hours work on fewer than 4 hours sleep and only 30mins break. Tomorrow I'm supposed to be doing the day shift 11-5 but Mrs Jeung wants me for housekeeping as well so I have to go in at 9am.
