7th - 10th January 1998

Wednesday 7th January
Got up at 5:30am and already there was a queue.  Claire went out there and I joined later with coffee, tea and cornflakes.  At 7:30am we received our stand by tickets and were told to come back at 10:30am.  We went back to the van read, slept and went back at the appointed time.  We then waited in line until 12:30pm.  We eventually made it in and were terrified about being picked.  We weren't.
One guy hurt his leg, a volleyball player from Washington State won a piano, a college girl won a convertible!  We went to the Farmers Market in the afternoon and then went to "Politically Incorrect" a kind of light-hearted debate show.  We then drove to Santa Barbara.  Unfortunately Marcia doesn't get CBS so we couldn't watch ourselves on T.V.

Here's a clip of the Price is Right show - you can see me and Claire right at the beginning.

Thursday 8th January
Slept in obscenely late.  Went and dropped our films in to be developed then went Thrift store shopping.  I bought $30 worth of clothing.  A pair of jeans, 2 tops - a slinky pulling number a tie-die shirt, a dress, a red top from GAP and a belt.  Claire bought a Clavin Klein shirt and a brown top.  I called Sharon and Heather in the morning and Heather is definitely coming to visit in February.  I haven't a clue where we're going to be staying, let alone her.

Friday 9th January
We picked up the photos today and had to call the AAA for the old ignition problem.  The problem is the gear stick, if it's not in Park or Neutral then it won't start as a safety feature, so all we have to do is wiggle it.
My Mum and Dad called so I had a nice long chat to them and Claire's Mum and Dad also called along with Al.  I really wanted to talk to Aaron today be he wasn't in so I left a message.  I'm feeling quite out of sorts today, not sure why.  It rained for most of the day so we sat in and ended up doing the jigsaw puzzle we got for Christmas.  In the evening we filled in dates on our photos and then we cooked Spaghetti Bolognese sans viande. And went out for dessert in the pouring rain.

Saturday 10th January
It was actually sunny this morning so we went out.  We went to the beach and while Claire and Marcia paddled I sat on the beach and pondered.  Then we picked up our next lot of photos and dropped off another film. In the afternoon we went to the courthouse and watched people having their wedding photos taken and then on to the "Mother" of all Missions; Santa Barbara Mission.  We also went down to the harbour and watched a few surf dudes, we went grocery shopping, ate corn chowder and did more of the jigsaw.  At about 10:30pm we went out to a bar and had a drink with a few business associates of Marcia.
