Tuesday 30th September
I awoke and departed, in the pouring rain, to the coffee pod with enough washing to fill my rucksack. I was completely drenched again and weighed down with my rucksack on a back that was still complaining about whale-watching yesterday. I finished the washing and now am back at the Pod. Claire finishes at 1.30pm and then we are going home. I don't know what to do this afternoon.
What we did was go round Tofino and take photos of the rain. Aaron called and said he was back from Vancouver and I should go round in the afternoon. Claire was going to Strawberry Island to clean whale bones but the guy wasn't there so we walked up to Aaron's and borrowed the car. I took Claire home and packed my stuff as Aaron said I could move in for the rest of the week. Claire was going to wait for Al so I left her to it. We sneaked me in to Aaron's truck to go to Nanaimo at 8pm. We had a really nice trip, we talked the whole way and back and we got in around 4:30am.
Wednesday 1st October
We slept until 12:45pm and I then went to the Pod and then to the beer and wine store and then home to the hostel. Now I'm back at Aaron's planning on more sleep while he studies.
Claire popped around with Al and we tried to go on a seaplane for a fly around. Unfortunately it was too windy and wet but tomorrow is supposed to be better. I could be going with Aaron tomorrow for the night, he has a long trip with live fish. There may be a problem of me going so he's going to check tonight.
Claire may be coming round this evening with Al so he can have a shower, she's going to give me a call. Tamasen asked us if we wanted to go to the Legion this evening, so we may go there.
Claire was supposed to call me at 7:30pm about her coming round for a shower but she didn't actually call me until 10:30pm! I went and picked her and Al up and brought them back to have a shower this was during the hugest thunderstorm. The electricity actually went out while Al was in the shower so when I took them back I went to the hostel and picked up a couple of candles which in actual fact I didn't need because the electricity didn't go off again. I found a "Doom" type game so I played that
and finally went to bed at 1:15am.
Thursday 2nd October
Aaron arrived home at about 6am - enough time to have 5 hours sleep and then go back to work. He got me a waiver so I could with him to Duncan with some fish. I saw in the back because we had John the biologist who had to check the fish every 2 hours or so. It was a good journey with lots of chat and "bewdey". We arrived in Duncan at about 5:30pm and watched while they unloaded the fish. These fish were brood salmon I think. They each have 6000 eggs inside them, when each of these eggs are hatched they are worth $1.50 each, and we had 98 fish on board. Therefore our load was worth $900000. We went for dinner at the Red Rooster where I had roast beef which was wonderful.
