5th - 7th September 1997

Friday 5th September
Worked again at 9am. Actually worked with Brenda today which was quite a laugh and we finished really quickly too. When I got my bottle refunds at 11:30am. Kevin asked me to work for an hour at midday so I quickly went home, had a coffee and some cookies which were courtesy of someone staying at the hotel.
I worked until 1:40pm so I didn't have to start this evening until 6:40pm.
I went to the post office to post my letters to Sharon and Andy, then to the drug mart for the photos, although they weren't there. Went to see Claire at work and waited until she finished at 3pm then went home again. We decided to go to Radar Hill, we went there before, the first day we met Brendan but we couldn't stay long as he'd got a parking ticket. The view there is pretty nice, although everyone is really stingy with rides. By the time we got back I had 15 minutes to get to work, so Claire made the Kraft dinner and brought it over to me.  Brendan is supposed to be around tonight if we are to believe anything where he's concerned.
Tanya got cable hooked up to the house today so this evening we are going to stay up and watch Princess Diana funeral. I saw the Queens live speech today and it still doesnt feel really real. They reckon 2.5 billion people will watch it on TV tonight. I watched it until 01:30am which was basically just the procession. Claire slept through the procession but she saw the actual ceremony she finally went to bed at 4am.

Saturday 6th September
Got up at 9am. I put the soccer on straight away unfortunately it was only Spanish or Italian football. During breakfast I managed to see quite a bit of Princess Diana's funeral. Aaron arrived at 10:15am and we made our way to coutenay. Claire drove all the way to Tim Hortons in Port Alberni and Cathedral Grove and I drove from there. Driving was easier than I expected although junctions are a bit scary. We arrived at Jamie's cafe which was kind of cool and he made us burritos. His son Gus is really adorable and I really enjoyed playing with him, kids don't normally take to me!  Claire had a sleep and we went to the movies.  We saw GI Jane which wasn't as bad as it sounds. We went back to th cafe and played trivial pursuit, which I won, then back to Jamie's house to sleep. When we got in Aaron's car he discovered he had a flat tyre, which we now think was due to one psycho ex-girlfriend.

Sunday 7th September
We got up at 08:30am because this was the time we were supposed to get up. Aaron didn't sleep very because of Hoek so he carried on sleeping. I eventually went back to bed and Claire went for a wander to write some postcards. We were eventually up at 10:30am but hen spent an hour pottering and playing with Gus. Hoek was going crazy with the dog from next door and managed to somehow completely take my legs out and I landed on my head, not much fun! We departed for he Denman Ferry but missed it so we went to James' bakery and then to the ferry. We ate at Subway on the way which is one of those North American experiences. Denman Island is gorgeous. The woman we went there to see, who's selling James some chickens, has the most amazing house and view for only $800 per month, exactly what's a Claire and I pay. We took James's truck and explored the Island. We found a lake where Claire and I went swimming in our undies!  We caught the 5:30pm ferry back and were on our way home to Torino. I drove the Port Alberni - Tofino route which was a bit scary in th dark and I had to stop at Long Beach because I was so tired.
