As I was going to be in Devon for a few days anyway it would have been remiss to not take advantage and to finalise a few of the wedding details. So, along with the personal shopper session (which I highly recommend by the way) I also booked in seeing the hair and makeup lady, the florist, the photographer and the Registrar. Phew - it was a busy few days!
We were in the hair dressers in Chulmleigh for 2.5 hours. Quite a marathon! It took such a long time because unfortunately the hair do I wanted was not possible. My baby fine hair just can't take curl at all. So after 2 hair washes and three do's we finally we able to attach my headpiece. And it looked great.
Mum and my Best Woman's hair was a lot easier and looked great and our makeup and nails were an added bonus. At least we now have an idea how long it'll take on the day and it was good to have the trial if only to realise what I wanted wasn't possible.
While we were in the village I had hoped to see the house again and also to meet the caterer. Unfortunately due to a breakdown in communication this wasn't possible. Hopefully we can deal with the caterer via phone and email and we've made alternative arrangements for my parents to see the house this week and to ask the huge list of questions we have.
The florist and photographer were a lot more brief than the hair and makeup. I have really no idea or strong feelings about types of flowers so I've hopefully give the florist an easy brief. Very informal, some pale blues and ivory and spring flowers if possible.
I was nice to meet our photographer after many weeks of email conversations and it turns out she went to school with my cousin, small world eh!? She'll be spending about 8 or so hours with us on the day so it was nice to find out what she was like and to see some more of her great photos. After the venue the photography is the most expensive item at the wedding and I'm already excited to see the finished shots. Her portfolio on her website is amazing - and I just hope that our photos will turn out so well. She specialises in reportage style and I thought it would be a great idea for her to go to the golf club with Tall Lad and his Best Man on the morning of the wedding - Tall Lad doesn't agree though. :-( I wonder if she could hide in the bushes at the 7th hole, paparazzi style!? ;-)
We left Devon to return home on Wednesday stopping at the Registrar in Tiverton en route. I don't think I've ever been to Tiverton before. It was like going back in time driving into the town but the Registry office was very pretty.
We had to pay our bill at the Registrars (an increased bill thanks to the increase in VAT) and go over the details of the ceremony. It's all getting very real now!
We were home in Hampshire by Wednesday afternoon and I still had the rest of the week off which I enjoyed greatly. On Thursday I went into work to celebrate a team member who is retiring after 40 years service and on Friday I had booked my first facial.
This is the first treatment of many over the next three months in an attempt to be as beautiful and as radiant as I can be on 04 June....and finally this brings us back to the title of this week's blog.
I've never had a facial before but I get the impression that it's supposed to be treated with some reverence. Me, being me, was chatting away to my beautician about all the treatments I'm planning while she was working away on my face. She said on a couple of occasions that I should be lying back and relaxing and when she left me alone while the masks did their thing I did try, honestly, but I just can't switch my brain off. I never have been able to. Even at yoga when you're supposed to "empty your mind" I lie there thinking about all and everything. So she now thinks that I'm incredibly stressed about the wedding and need to chill out.
Am I stressed? How would I know? I must admit my eczema has returned slightly which I guess is an indication but I don't feel it. I AM however really happy that my Mum and Dad are looking at the house and taking over the issues surrounding that. That will indeed be a load off and at least they're only an hour away, rather than more than 3, if anything is required.
Everything is wrapping up now and we just have final payments and some forms to complete between now and June. I've had my final dress fitting and the invites are complete (and posted today). Still to come:
- Cake topper form
- Pay for florist (deposit and final balance)
- Pay final balance of venue

ReplyDeleteUrgh! Please don't!
ReplyDeleteI can not begin to imagine how i would cope with the amount of planning that is involved in a wedding, i would probably forget something really important! (you have probably thought of it as you seem very organized, but dont forget Lingerie, either for the day or the honeymoon!)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a truely beautiful day. Lingerie Of Desire
